Chilliwack Education Park
Education Park comes to Chilliwack's Canadian Forces Base.
The City of Chilliwack has joined with the University College of the Fraser Valley, the Justice Institute of BC and the provincial government to redevelop lands at the former Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack into an education and research park.
The closure of the forces base in 1995 was a blow to the local economy. Chilliwack residents welcomed the establishment in 2001 of an RCMP training academy in the old officers’ training buildings. On July 21, 2003, City Council agreed to a federal proposal to re-zone 150 acres of the base lands for residential use.
In August 2004, The City of Chilliwack, the Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation (CEPCO), UCFV, Beijing Concord College of Sino-Canada, and the College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University signed an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last week, reaching another milestone for the Chilliwack Education Park.
