The Salmon Ridge trail (also know as Teskey Trail) is a short uphill jaunt that takes you right up into Promontory Hill, an ever-growing higher-end housing development that overlooks Chilliwack and the Vedder River. Even easier and shorter than Chilliwack Lake's popular Teapot Hill, Salmon Ridge is well suited for an after-work evening stroll or a Sunday afternoon family outing. Leave your compass, hiking boots and camp stove at home.
We recommend parking in a gravel parking lot on the left hand side of Chilliwack Lake road, about 1 minute after you turn off from Vedder Road.
In under 30 minutes you'll find yourself up on Promontory hill surrounded by monster-sized houses. In previous years the trail used to veer off to the left near the top, affording great views over Chilliwack and Vedder, but housing developments have taken over the top portion of the hike.
To give you something to talk about on future hikes, once you've arrived up in Promontory and find yourself hoofing around on blacktop, try your luck at getting invited in for tea and cookies by one of the many friendly locals out polishing their shrubberies. You'll find Promontorians an amiable, generous lot.
